ETERNAL SECURITY: Once Saved Always Saved?
The Lord declared, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” This supports the doctrine of eternal security. The Bible also says that we were marked in Christ with a seal, the Holy Spirit, which is a deposit guaranteeing what is to come. This is awesome!
The question this book tackles is whether or not our eternal security is unconditional or conditional. If it’s unconditional, it would support the idea of ‘once saved always saved,’ which argues that, since salvation is a gift received by faith, not by works, believers can never lose their salvation, even if they live like the devil with no care of penitence decade after decade.
Yet we are instructed to continue in faith in the Scriptures, as well as guard our hearts from things that would steal faith, such as “doctrines of demons,” and things that can “choke the word.” Doing so prevents the developing of “a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12).
